For this history of what is now one of the largest Jewish populations in America, Bookhouse Group worked with a professor of Judaic studies at Emory University to tell a story that began in 1845 when two Jewish German immigrants settled in Atlanta. Through oral histories, exquisite photographs, and a compelling manuscript, L’Chaim explores the growth of a community that oftentimes faced severe social and political pressures, not to mention violence in the form of lynchings and bombings. In pulling together other material for the book, our editors worked closely with the Breman Jewish Heritage & Holocaust Museum and its deep trove of archival treasures. The book was commissioned in honor of the centennial anniversary of the Jewish Federation of Atlanta.
